never took much of an interest until I read Perfume - Patrick Süskind, which is the story of a serial killer who tries to recreate the scent of a specific woman from his youth…with parts from his victims… but it went into a lot of detail on the craft of perfume making itself, for example the care in which jasmine flowers need to be prepared to preserve their scent - made me interested in the intention and process behind creating and choosing scents!
sales associate at diptyque had an interesting description of a lily inspired fragrance
- a scent that feels like sitting by the pond full of lilypads
- despite lilypads not having this smell, it’s meant to invoke that feeling/imagery - an abstract association
