graduation

i attended my friend’s music graduation ceremony, and heard two beautiful speeches; it was funny that both speakers mentioned how common it is to be asked as a music major, “what are you going to do with your degree?” there is no such experience in cse.

a memorable quote from one speech, paraphrased from memory: “studying music is the study of beauty, and what is more human than that?”

the cse graduation speech was not as uplifting; it was a lecture, maybe a plea, about being critical of the systems we build, and using our skills for societal good. an important message that many will ignore. the contrast in tone and content between the two ceremonies was interesting to me

i’ll miss undergrad: living with friends, everyone reachable via a stroll - spontaneous meetups, free student perks, the events, the hackathons…maybe even the late night lab sessions of arduous debugging

but i’m so ready to be done with the academics of it LOL - i don’t want to stop learning - in fact, i feel like at some point i really stopped being able to learn deeply through my classes - i’m excited to start learning on my own terms now, and I’m grateful to school for equipping me with the mentality and toolkit to do so

there’s about 3 weeks before i start working full-time

before i start work, ideally i can do these things:

  1. watch five famous movies

    4. arrival
    5. how to make a million before grandma dies
  2. finish 2-4 books

  3. finish editing my japan vlog
  4. draw art assets for generation ship visual novel game

      1. decide on some objects
    2. storyboard cutscenes
    3. all character art and expressions
  5. catch up w all my friends
  6. complete 2 song covers
    1. lamp
    2. special girl
    3. half the world away
    4. lover girl
    5. ghostride
    6. andromeda
    7. amoeba
    8. francis forever
    9. sparks
  7. film an “everything i bought in japan” reel lol
  8. get a new laptop + phone
  9. clean and organize my digital files (on laptop and phone, and google drives)
  10. organize and collect clothes i don’t want… and make sure everything reachable in my closet is stuff i will wear lol
  11. learn the basics of music production
  12. make personal goal deadlines for the upcoming year
  13. practice violin & organize old sheet music
  14. polish course notes on
